On December 17, 2008 Jacob Hayes tragically passed away, leaving behind a young daughter who will come to know her father through the legacy that his family and friends will pass on. Jacob’s life was a testament to the perseverance, humility, strength, and compassion to which we all strive. Lance/Corporal Hayes proudly served as a United States Marine in Iraq and upon his return aspired to a career in firefighting as a means to maintaining the physical excellence, commitment and loyalty to comrades, public service, and possibility of danger Jacob loved so much yet never wavered under.

Jacob struggled to find the funds necessary to attend Fire Academy at Collin College and equally so to pass the tests required for admittance to the program. The tests he passed, but news of acceptance to the program came just a few days too late. To honor Jacob’s accomplishment a scholarship has been established in his name at the Collin College Foundation. It is my hope that we can pass on his legacy by providing financial assistance to deserving applicants. The Jacob Hayes Memorial Scholarship will hopefully raise enough funds to help cover the cost of Fire Academy for an equally deserving applicant each year.
